Software to run a hair salon

I've just picked up a new SMB customer, a hair salon. The software they're using to manage the shop (e.g. record appointments, keep a calendar of all appointments, the calendar for a particular hairdresser, sending out appointment reminders) is REALLY old. Each PC is running Win 98 and the "server" that manages the database is also Win 98! They want to upgrade all their PCs (yay!) but the original software provider is no longer in business, so they're looking for something new.

I've done a bunch of Google searches looking for replacement software, but there are so many that it's hard to determine what's good and what's not (especially since this if my first hair salon customer.) Anybody have a hair salon customer? What software are they using? Pros/Cons?

Thanks for any pointers.

Take a look at squareup.com. They pretty much do the whole thing. I guess the disadvantage is they may not have something specific to the beauty business.

My cousin who owns a salon uses Square for her inventory managment, POS and client monitoring. She uses Google calendar for appointments.
