The storm is picking up speed now. We have at least 3 or 4 inches outside on top of what we had previously. We are due to get somewhere about a foot of snow.

Things I do before major snow falls:

1. Park my car at the end of my drive way - It makes it easier to blow the snow off the drive a head of the car and then clean off the car and move it up the drive and clean the rest.
2. Full tank of gas in both car and snow blower.
3. I had recently purchased cleats that strap to my shoes so when I head out to snow blow I do not slip and fall. I also bought a full head hat that is pretty cool.
4. New gloves for the season. Not so good as fingers get cold.
5. Checked my cigar supply - Ok. lol...

Anyone else seeing this snow?

Probably 6" here in lower Wisconsin so far on top of the 8" or so we had.. My daughter has to travel to O'Hare to pick up her boyfriend from Bulgaria who is flying in today. We're hoping the flight doesn't get re-routed. She's not even driving but taking an airport direct bus so she doesn't have to deal with Chicago traffic in a snow storm.

On Wednesday and early Thursday this is what it looked like around here.

Took me 45 mins to get into my car because all the doors were completely frozen over. Walking anywhere was dangerous as it was like a state wide ice skating rink, but wet on top of the ice too. My legs were sore all yesterday just from all the effort it took to not slip and fall.

Need to get new gloves now too since I trashed mine trying to pry the doors open.

Geez @coffee I haven't even gotten my winter coat out yet much less a balaclava. After all, it's only hit -10° F so far this winter.

I have been down with the flu all last week and I do not like being out in the cold anymore. In my younger days it didnt bother me but now Im 56 I get a bit concerned.

lol, Love your comment though. I think the balaclava is pretty darn cool! You do not overheat in it and it keeps your whole head warm. Today I will even be wearing my sunglasses too! Should I post a pic - lol!

I can't wear that much on my head, I overheat too much. I've been wearing fedoras for years, including 25+ years ago when I used to go downhill skiing in them. For particularly chilly days I have a nice one that has fold-down earflaps as well.

People sometimes worry that a hat makes a statement. My hats make the statement "Look! My head is dry and there's no rain on my glasses!"

As for the snow, it was a little slick for driving last night, but as long as you know how to "ride the slide" it's not that big a deal. Still, I tried to arrange to get my onsite tasks wrapped up yesterday so I could work entirely from home today. Too many idiot tailgaters in SUVs out there who don't realize that for most of them 4WD just means they'll be going faster when they lose all traction.

Icy here but not near as bad. Just bought some sneaker boots with a special sole that has much higher friction.
