My small church asked me to put together a SmartTV announcement board. Typical lack of budget, someone is donating the TV. Has to be simple to modify.

I'm thinking a computestick or NUC could be set to boot up to a browser with the home page being a non-public page on their website. That way, content could be changed by modifying the web page instead of tinkering with the unit. No space for a full-sized or even SFF computer where they want to hang the thing.

Does this sound like a workable solution? Has anyone done this kind of thing?

doing it now. I've been experimenting with this kind of thing and have settled on Raspberry Pi with Screenly OSE software pointing to our web page. Once it's set up, just modify the web page and next time Screenly refreshes, it gets the latest page. I've had in a test state for a few days only but it's been stable in that time.
