Small Business looking for Phone System

I have a client with about 10 employees. They are looking for a phone system that can handle forwarding to mobile phones. The have a small office with 5-6 people and two or three consultants working in different areas of the country.

Does anyone have an recommendations?

In don't know about business but I have a VoIP business line for just me and if my main phone rings my mobile does as well.

There several ways to do this. I can think of two options

Option #1 If you don't know VOIP and want to make $$$ refer them to 8x8. They pay commission by lines or phone. The used Cisco Phone

Option #2 if you know a little bit about PBX and would like to start learning VOIP then you might want to consider Cisco VOIP for small Business. "UC320"
Not to difficult to setup. VLAN and QOS automatically configured for you using the wizard. This is a complete system (Router/Wifi/Auto Attendant / VoiceMail /switch / Analog and sip lines), You can easy get another POE switch and daisy chain. I can help you if you need additional help.

But if you want just PBX, consider Avaya System. Another system that is easy to setup (not as easy as UC320). You can purchase the admin software or everything can be configure using the phone at ext 10 and 11. Once thing I like about Avaya is it's very reliable. But just like any PBX, don't forget to invest on line conditioner.

One advantage of a good Voip system is you can get a way with conditioner/filter and handle it thru the unified communicatoin.

I use to be a partner with RingCentral but their support is overseas and very hard to understand. Also they have had several outages that have lasted more than 24 hours which is totally unacceptable!

How do these VOIP systems work? Does it use your existing internet connection?

Just thinking out loud here. But my client has a Verizon landline phone service and internet service. Does Verizon offer (or even include) call forwarding etc? Do these features just require new phones to enable these features? (Right now they just have off the shelf cordless phones)

My customer seems very interested in Ring Central. How frequent were the outages and how long ago did this happen?

Are there good alternatives you would recommend?

I know that one of the outages were more than 24 hours. In my opinion if more than a few minutes of an outage for a VOIP problem is a major problem. That means that they don't have the proper infrastructure as they should have redundancy built-in for preventing downtime.

I'm a fan of RC and haven't had any problems with them. I've found there support to be pretty good when I've ever needed to call them. They've always addressed the issue promptly. If you need, I can put together an official proposal for you. IM me should you have any questions.

How do these VOIP systems work? Does it use your existing internet connection?

You could use your exiting internet connection depending on the internet bandwidth and number of users.

But if your using a Hybrid (Voip with Analog Lines/ T1) then Internet bandwidth is not a concern.

I just signed up with voip.ms(2 weeks ago) so far so good. I have a local pbx running asterisk with greandstream phones. Check out voip.ms and asterisk for pbx cheap and effective.
