Sharing my phone's connection with network via router

I've just moved and, joy of joys, can't get a proper broadband connection until the 13th. So, for the moment, I'm working off of my phone's connection tethered to my main PC. I've not connected to the main network as Windows wants to give a wired connection preference when going online so I keep it disabled. (Well, with the move, I've not bothered to plug it in yet at all).

Last time I'd had some internet issues at my old place, I used "Virtual Router" with some success but, for no good reason, now it says it can't start. :mad: I looked at Connectify and my bench machine (XP) can't see the wifi point at all (though my ipad can use it). Both of these programs turn your PC into an wifi access point.

What I'd really like to do would be to put my main PC (Win7x64) on the network and share the iphone's connection to anything else plugged in via the router.

I'll be honest -- I have never needed to set up an ICS connection and, from what I know of it, it wouldn't work through the router anyway. (I've tried and, so far, have had no luck)

It's not a bad time for business to a little slow as I'd be paying through the nose once I go past my 2GB limit on my plan.

Edit: FWIW, I took Connectify's offer to Like them on FB and get a week of their Pro -- this lets me use a wired connection directly to another machine. That's got my bench box online and I could swap that connection over to anything I get in the next few days. Not ideal but...working.

I'm not extremely familiar with iOS, but isn't there an app to do wifi tethering for the iphone? Android has a few, some don't even require root. Seems like that'd be easiest.

how come ICS didnt work? Thats how I did it with my phone when we just recently moved?

I had the phone tethered and hooked the router straight to my ethernet jack.

Crap - had a double reply typed up but did some experimenting, went offline; started closing things down and was about to reboot when things behaved.

1404 - iOS 5 tethers and even functions as a hotspot. I'm beginning to realize my second wifi dongle is an old piece of crap. I've now got my main PC tethered with the iphone's cable and have my (working) wifi dongle on my bench machine. That'll take care of some usefulness in the meantime.

Knightsman - that's where my own ignorance with ICS may be the problem. The info I can find on it reads like you can only do ad-hoc connections. I can't find anything that says I can connect it into the router (which I've tried anyway) but without success.

Sonofa-! Last night, I put aside all the information I'd found and decided to let a little instinct kick in. "How do I think this should go?" So, phone tethered to my PC... Wifi connection told to ICS to the NIC (IP assigned 192.168.137.1)... cable from NIC to Router's WAN. Nothing. In fact, the router was responding so slowly, I thought it had crashed. Screw it. Went to bed.

This morning, it's working. It's like it just needed a long rest to get its ducks in a row or something 'cause I'm posting from my bench machine now. {sigh}

God, I can't wait for that broadband cable to get connected.
