I have a server 2003 box that is functions fine except that it randomly stopped allowing external OWA connections. Our land page works, but clicking the login button times out after a few seconds with no helpful error on browser or server side.

Internally it works fine. The firewall is properly configured and hasn't changed in months, I double checked and 80/443 are forwarded properly. I don't have much experience with this sort of thing so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Is it perhaps after IE11 upgrades? Compatibility view would solve it, if that's the problem.

You did not mention. Does this happen on all browsers all OS's? For grins have you tried substituting the IP address for the FQDN?

I only forward port 443....I never..ever..do port 80, just train end users to type in the "S" after http. However...not related to your issue, just a tip.

Lots of smart phones? Does rebooting the server help it for a while? Or doing an IIS reset?

Just for clarification, it works internally but does not always work externally? What firewall/router are you using?

It was DNS, my phone had the splash page cached so when i got home and tried it it did not respond at all. Logged in to my host and somehow the DNs servers had switched back to their defaults instead of my rackspace servers. Called in and they said some accounts were reset after a server outage. Set it back and it works now. Thanks everyone!

Our mail server and OWA address are not the same, so it was throwing me off as well.
