Hello. I am currently studying for my CompTIA Security + Certification needed for a job I recently interviewed for. Do any of you have any tips for me on studying, etc? Also is the exam really difficult?

Thanks!

I took my test back in 2010. I used Darril Gibson's book for study material.

The test was easy for me. I guess it depends on how you can handle testing and how well you understand the security principles which are on the test.

I passed the Security+ recently. I used both Darril Gibson book, and some of the videos from professormessor as the other have said. If you take the beginning test in Gibson you can narrow what you need to focus on. I did read the book cover to cover. I also purchased a security+ exam practice for my phone during my downtime. Set a date for a month and go for it. Aim for mastering 2 chapters a week. Good luck

Book 1
Book 2

The first book is really good, and is the one I used this last time. Book 2 I recommend for the novice in the network security world, as the practice exams are more for understanding the material in the, rather than the test itself, but both equally help you prepare for the actual test.

To broaden your horizons post-security+, I recommend Practical Unix & Internet Security if you are new to Network Security. If you really want to broaden, try this book. You'll be amazed at what you will learn, that CompTIA doesn't care about to include, which is a shame. I have all kinds of Network Security related books, covering all OS's, all infrastructure types, and even one this is nothing but about penetration testing and beating firewalls. They make for good reading material and reference material.
