Screenshots during post/boot or BIOS - possible?

I see a lot of posts and websites where there are screenshots of boot/post screens, especially when there is a problem. I don't see how this is possible unless it is being run in a VM. Is there a way to do this on a bare metal install?

Some newish (UEFI) motherboards support inserting a FAT32 USB drive and pressing F12, Print Screen, etc and it saves a screenshot.

I saw the F12, print screen function while working in the BIOS of Win 8 rig but never really thought it through. Thanks for pointing it out.

Neat, but expensive ($215USD). I see they (Epiphan) are headquartered right here in Kanata (an Ottawa suburb). Their VGA2USB Lr (USB 3.0) version is $800 USB in the US but $1,384 CAD here in Canada (on Amazon.ca)! I guess our dollar has slid more than I realized!
