I am trying ScreenConnect's linux server installed on a VPS from ThrustVPS, because its cheap. I am having a few issues that I hope someone can help with.

1. Cannot get the mail function to send email. I have edited the web.config file with my email account and the smtp.gmail.com server info with port 465. When I set it to 587, I get an unable to send error. Even when it says successfully sent, the receiver never gets a test. Do I need to set up anything more on the linux box (like postfix)?

2. Playing around with the custom toolbox thing and the manage toolbox area was grayed out. Even after scp copying some files to the toolbox folder in /opt/screenconnect/App_Data, I do not see anything in this area. Do I need to change some permissions on the toolbox folder or anything? Right now Iit is set as drwxr-xr-x. Can someone shed some light on this stuff?

You may get better results for tech support on their forums. They know their product best. And they probably don't check this site daily.
 
The mail was an issue with the mono settings and the certificates with that.

The toolbox thing I finally figured out was that I had to be connected with a guest to manage the folder, and apparently there is a bug that is putting all the files in a top level folder. I uploaded files directly to the server using scp and the fine folks at SC are working on the fix for this.
