Scansnap scan to outlook 2011

I have a client who had an imac that he replaced. This imac would scan to outlook 2011 perfectly through the scansnap manager.
I installed his programs, including outlook 2011 and the fujitsu scansnap. Now though, it insists on scanning to apple mail even though outlook 2011 is the default mail client.
I looked at fujitsu's web site and they say

"Scan to E-mail" function of ScanSnap Manager
Malfunction Temporary Resolution Affected Scanners

Linkage with Microsoft® Outlook® for Mac 2011 by using "Scan to E-mail" function is unavailable.

(Even when "Microsoft Outlook.app" is specified for the [Default email reader] in [Preferences] of the email program "Mail" , the linkage with Microsoft® Outlook® for Mac 2011 fails as the message ""Scan to E-mail" only supports Mail.app and Microsoft Entourage.app." appears.) Save the file and then start up an E-mail program and attach the file to an E-mail message. S1300

The problem is this was working fine on the old system!

Have you verified that the system is recognizing Outlook as the default mail app? Right click/control click on any file>Share>EMail.
