User using a Brother MFC-8480DN connected via USB on Windows 7 x64 tower. When trying to scan using Windows Fax and Scan, it stops responding or says the scanner cannot be found. Printing still works fine, the copier works fine. I uninstall and reinstall the driver, it scans once then same issue. I've tried getting the driver from Windows update, from brother's website, uninstalling and installing the whole printer suite and it's always the same. I can scan once before it stops working. My next step is to connect the printer to another computer to see what happens, but I get the feeling that it will work fine. I have experience printer driver issues in the past (and have learned to always restart the computer after uninstalling/installing) but I am not sure what I should try next to resolve the problem. Does anyone have a better method for uninstalling drivers other than through device manager or with manufacturer provided uninstallers?

Why use Windows Fax and Scan? Just have to ask. That program is worthless.
It's just what they were using. I have tried a different program, but that didn't work either.

Then I'd bet your first guess that it will work fine on another computer is true. Do you know what was hooked up before? Has all previous MFP/AIO apps been cleared out? Many of these OEM's have separate removal tools available in addition to the regular uninstall option.
Yes, it was fine on another computer. There is an Epson printer attached too, but it is only a printer. I found some other Brother printer drivers in the driver store that I also cleared out. After a reinstall from the Brother driver package, everything is working right now.

start up settings?
Hi,
I know you have fixed the issue but just for future I would probably check if the computer had this drive running on start up or services via "msconfig" utility as sometimes when the computer needs a once over some things that get stopped starting might of included the drivers relevant to that printer.
