Safe-Mode Hangs When Right-Click on File

Hey guys
I'm hoping that someone here can help me with a problem I have.
Whenever I boot into Safe Mode (specifically to run the batch scripts on here) whenever I right click on a file, the mouse cursor changes to that lil' circle and stays like that. The desktop/taskbar pretty much stall.

Opening up Task Manager, I don't see any problems there. CPU is fluctuating between 4-12%, Memory constant 15-17%. No applications are reporting as Not Responding. Everything looks fine on the processes tab. If I 'End Task' of Explorer.exe and re-open it via File > New Task in Task Manager, everything is sweet again, till I right click on a file.

I can right click on the desktop fine, on application windows etc. Its just whenever I right click on a file it craps out on me. I am running Windows Vista SP1 with all current updates.

I have noticed jams like that happening when an item that goes in the right-click menu for files was deleted or messed up. Removing the entry fixes it (usually easy to find because it is for a program that isn't installed). While it sounds similar, I can't really see why it would work in a normal boot and not safe mode but it could be a place to start looking.

I second MrUnknown, it's probably one of the items in the context menu. Perhaps one of the menu items require a driver or service that doesn't load in safe mode.

If it's a corrupt menu item, you can edit/delete items within the "ContextMenuHandlers" tree in the registry. Or you can use an app to edit. Try FILEMENU TOOLS @ http://www.lopesoft.com/en/. I discovered it recently but have not used it yet.

I'm starting to think its that one. From what both of you have said, there is no item on the context menu where the program has been uninstalled or deleted. There are 2 entries for BitDefender, and one for Unlocker. Both are installed and work fine.

I don't use the BitDefender from the context menu EVER; so I'll remove that and see how I go. But I'll be using ShellEx View, which I'm pretty sure has been featured here on Technibble in the 'Repair Tools of the Week'
