Router Calibration offer

Its for my very immediate vicinity, walking distance, i could probably hit about 500 addresses in an afternoon/evening and I'm looking at it more as PR exercise to get my name out there and hopefully find people who want more than the router calibration.

I hadn't considered your second point, but thinking about it, in that situation i would put them on the same channel as the furthest away/weakest signal router.

How do you plan on keeping track of all the possible channel combinations for a given address?

Someone walks in your door with their wireless router under their arm and tells you they live at 123 anystreet and they want their "router calibrated". That will never happen, but just for the sake of conversation.

You're going to maintain a list of each of those 500 addresses cross referenced to very localized wireless networks/SSIDS and channel strength? And keep it all updated? Wow.

Just about any other idea you can think of to "get your name out there" would be better than this one.

..... a clear channel for £5 or free if they have other work done..

I believe his currency is euros? or pounds? either way its not dollars, so if you do the exchange rate, his 5 might equal $100 American lol :P /sarcasm.

"£" is not the symbol of Euro but of the Pound Serling ( GBP )

in English or at least to me calibration just means generally "change".

Well I check, and calibration in English is the same as in French, it means compare measurements, so I was right it's calibrating an instrument. In a case of a router it may be calibrate the WiFi frequency , but selecting a channel is not a calibration. but to calibrate the WiFi frequency it will have to be done with very specialized instrumentation.

Sorry to bring it back, but for someone with a degree in electronic, calibration is not changing a channel in a menu and as far as I know WiFi frequency can't be adjusted, it's why when I see the title, I said, WTF this guy want to do.

Arrrrgh the pedants are revolting! Double gag there because you're French :P

In common usage in the UK calibration would be a totally acceptable word for that service. If we're going to get into pedantry then yes, calibration requires something to be set to and is probably more technical than changing a channel, but y'know its just a word and thats why i came to you guys for a bit of help and advice before it was printed.

I currently charge £45 for an onsite tune-up and £30 for me to take it and do it in the workshop. How about adding something at the bottom of the ad or somewhere, about free router calibration with every in home service?

that's along better lines, as stated elsewhere a bit of value added sugar to sweeten does allot better than low next to or zero cost offers. people want to perceive value.

ps router calibration is not a decent way to word.. personally i would go for something along lines of...

save £30 - WiFi OPTIMIZATION survey included with every onsite service until 05/09/2012
