If you are a traveling tech making a lot of stops, order is important.

It does not really matter if you are seeing two customers, but if you are visiting 3 or more sites, this really helps save miles/kilometers and time.

Ahh, the classic travelling salesman problem! When I first got into business I thought I would be working through this a lot, but it never really came up at all since folks like to schedule in advance and you never know all of the stops for a day all at once, them come in one at a time spread out over days sometimes, so you just have to plunk them in where they fit, driving efficiency be damned. If your business doesn't have this limitation, this looks like a good resource, though!

I too used to think this would be something to worry about. But early on it became evident that type of functionality was more like the nickel solution to the dime problem. If I was able to shuffle appointments around I just do what was needed. With in reason. I've only ever used route planning software one time. Was for a big project up in NH upgrading all the State owned ABC stores, 94 in total. Looked at several and just ended up using mapquest.

I used to use a different tool like this that is no longer free when I would do three or four network replacements at multiple sites. Last time I used it, I visited 5 sites about 2 hours away from me that were closing to pull out their network equipment. I added reasonable time to pull the equipment and travel, and it was pretty good. Got it all done and returned in a 7.5 hour day!

Man, I've "driven" so much around New England for my ~30 years doing IT, and back 'n forth up the coast from CT to FL and back and CT to ME and back, CT to NH and back, .... I just do it in my head....combined with Google Maps real time to adjust as needed due to traffic/accidents.
