Is there something special about MS Office 2007 Home/Student version that you cannot retrieve the product key from the computer it's installed on?

I've tried Prodkey and it doesn't bring up anything on the drive that I'm trying to extract it from. Magic Jelly Bean keyfinder doesn't turn up anything either.

I've also tried running a script I found online which found some key (but not the key I was looking for).

Are you trying to extract the key using the PC on which it's installed or from an external "offline" drive? If an "offline" drive, most tools require that you specify the external drive, else it defaults to current boot drive.

@soho Don't know...never thought of that...Can Fab's do that kind of thing? I've got Fab's

@glright I've tried it both ways...From the machine itself and from the offline drive.

Can Fabs locate and transfer it to a new machine?
Fabs only 'sub-contracts' to ProduKey (you have to copy ProduKey to the Fabs folder).

Are you sure that the installation was validated? If it wasn't, the key won't be there.

Ok mystery solved. I first noted MS Office in the list of installed programs in control panel, but didn't look closely enough to see that it was a "60 day trial", and it was not activated apparently; I cannot find an .exe to launch it in Windows. Thanks!
