Retail Pricing Less Than Wholesale

Be careful when dealing with vendors / distributers across borders. I recently had a situation where a Dell Optiplex Point of Sale Server failed and I was called in to help get the client up and running. I found out that the Dell system was purchased in Canada by a vendor that customized it for a POS system that they distribute internationally. Anyway, Dell U.S. would not even talk to me for support until the ownership of the sever was transferred from Canada to the U.S. I always thought Dell was Dell, but they have all sorts of rules. It took two days of phone calls to both Dell U.S. and Dell Canada to transfer the ownership of the equipment from Canada to the customer in Florida. Once all the legalities were done, Dell U.S. finally dispatched a tech to do the work, took about an hour. Took almost 2 weeks to get him on site. I was able to get the server hard drive transferred to another PC for the client and he was actually down for only about an hour. My efforts kept the very busy business running until the legal issues were settled. I guess this is very long winded, but just check before you buy to see if tech support or warrantees will cross the borders.:)
