Remote Assistance Software

Hi, just wondering what remote assistance software you guys use? I've heard somewhere that teamviewer is no longer a trusted solution.
So which one do you use, free is better ;)

Regarding Teamviewer, what was the eventual outcome of that security kerfluffle? I know they were saying that there hadn't been a breach on their side and that it was passwords hacked elsewhere but reused in TeamViewer that were the problem. I saw at least a few anecdotal reports of "this was a dedicated TV account with a password used noplace else," but didn't hear much more.

That said, unless there's an indication of an ongoing breach I might actually be more inclined to trust TeamViewer than some of the others because I know that there are multiple people there looking hard at security.

However, TV is expensive and if you're trying to use it for something recognizable as business remote support they will shut down your account - I got hit with that just with connecting to several different family member systems.

If all you want is inexpensive on-demand remote support, one of the Splashtop versions may be your best bet; if you want unattended support that's a different version. If you're using any kind of RMM look at what's included there - you may be able to get remote support to RMM-connected systems for less than the cost of a third-party package.
 
The company I work for recommends several options for remote assistance. The primary option, simply for the price, is Logmein (www.logmein.com). It is a subscription model and is primarily aimed at business wanting access to a single machine (up to 2 with the first tier subscription) from multiple possible locations (tablet, phone, other PC, etc). We also use VPN and VNC for our customers that have a decent internet service provider.

With logmein and others mentioned in previous posts the problem is the long term price. At $150 a year for the base subscription, after 5 years you were better off buying the license for Teamviewer (assuming you don't want to upgrade to the latest version or need one of its features).

I personally do not know of another service similar to teamviewer that will allow remote connections from one machine to unlimited remote machines without violating the license terms in some way. That is the primary reason for the cost of teamviewer. It allows a single tech to remotely support unlimited clients (one at a time) with just the first tier license.
 
Software and people change. The software people were using a year ago may not be what they are using now. I'm not. I really don't have a problem with questions being asked over and over (when there has been a period of time in between them) because I'm curious about what people are using now, not months/years ago. I'm still hopeful that someone will post something about a remote software package that I haven't heard of and fits what I'm looking for. So far, I haven't found it. So, please, keep the questions/comments coming.

exactly why i asked again... i've googled around and found countless pages and threads, many of them with 4/5 years... but i also know what Larry said its true, but it doesn't hurt no one to ask again, because there's not only one answer to this question...
