Refurb Brother ink has a slightly different design

I got cheap refurbished ink for my friend's new Brother MFC-J1010DW. The cartridges do not snap into place like the OEM ones do but the ink doesn't move at all like other printers usually do. I worry about the ink leaking. I returned them and got nicer ones from LD Products and they have the same issue. LD told me that they are not legally allowed to use the same exact design - no one can. It doesn't make sense for them to make ones that do not snap into place.

Here's what the OEM looks like next to the LD Products:

Friends don't let friends drive cheap inkjet printers.

LD Products is a decent mfg of 3rd party supplies. I'd just roll the dice.

Well when you're poor folk... but at least it doesn't have a tri-color cartridge. A high-end Brother inkjet could have this same issue since 3rd parties aren't allowed to copy the exact design of the cartridges. I am glad I have a basic Brother monochrome printer that is a workhorse for how cheap it was. Never an issue with 3rd party cartridges.
