I've had success with Easeus Data Recovery where Recuva failed but there are several tools out there.

Do a byte for byte image of it NOW, then monkey around.

testdisk has a image recovery program included. Best I have used especially for camera cards/usb

also +1 for being free

I'm a big GetDataBack and R-Studio fan, but neither is free.

You can try Recuva and if that does not hit the spot then go for GetDataBack.

Both have served me very well.
