Well, I've tried everything I know and even had someone else look at my friend's HP DV9000 with the 'faulty screen' issue and, combined with the words of wisdom and help from you guys here, it's now declared as a GPU/mobo problem, so my friend is happy to scrap it.

He's looking to spend in the region of £400 to £500GBP and would like some suggestions as to a decent, reliable laptop in that price range. I don't sell laptops and I haven't been in business long enough or had enough come through my hands to see a pattern of which to avoid, so may I throw myself at your mercy again and ask what you folks would recommend? I think it's safe to say that he doesn't want to go with HP again though ;)

Thanks

I only recommend Business Class these days. i.e. Lenovo Thinkpad, Dell Latitude and HP Probook plus others.

Check out Tier 1 Online, I just got a lovely refurbished Latitude in pristine condition for a client of mine yesterday.

I don't sell either but I have seen a few people have bought that I've done a data transfer and the Lenovas look a nice build(£500+). See what others say.

Thanks for your suggestions guys - Tier1 looks quite interesting :)

Call them and ask for Tyler. Tell him Julian from JustInspired sent you. He sends me regular price lists and will search for particular items if you are searching for something specific.
This works out easier as the Tier 1 site lists out of stock items along with in stock ones and it can be tedious looking for things.

(Thanks to Nige for putting me in touch with Tyler)
