[REQUEST] Recommendation for motherboard level repairs shop

I know of no-one locally I could recommend. Nearest firm I have any experience of is in Wolverhampton, which is no use to you. But I have to ask: Is this really worth doing? Presumably this/these units are out of warranty, so they're not brand new. Moot point whether a repair (as opposed to a replacement) is actually an economic proposition, I would have thought.

Sounds like someone broke a laptop while they were repairing it

Do not use ALB, just got a repair back and there is damage to the laptop.
Not impressed with ACI either.

Well, yes, but not always. I get a lot of laptops that are well out of warranty, but customers are either willing to pay for something because it's cheaper than getting a new laptop, or sometimes it costs about as much as new but they are trying to do the environmental thing and keep it out of landfill because it still works fine for them otherwise.

The logic usually goes something like this... A new laptop might cost ~£400, plus my charge for transferring things over and saving them hours of setup time by making it somewhat like their old laptop that they were comfortable with, vs spending £250 to £300 on fixing their current laptop, which is already set up just how they like it. If they reckon they're likely to get two or three more years out of it, then that's fine.

But aside from that, the need does arise from time to time for various legitimate reasons. Newer laptops that are out of warranty etc.. It just feels like a bit of a gaping hole in my service offering.

heheh... No, not this time. Those times are when I suddenly hate my job.

Thanks for letting me know. Are they going to do anything to make it right?

Any other recommendations anybody? I'm happy to ship it within the UK if I must.

Yes, they got back to me quickly with an offer to make amends. Still, pretty bad the state they returned a pristine laptop in.
