I have a users system who had right clicked on their Documents and Pictures folders, went to location, and changed their locations to a 2nd hard drive.

That drive failed - and they decided they dont need it.

Now, the 1st hdd shows <no text> where the documents and pictures should appear on the start menu (classic start menu)

and in the user folder, nothing is there. I tried to copy backed up versions of the documents/picures to the profile folder, but now they are showing up as an icon with no way to click on them! YIKES!

I remember years ago there is a registry entry that deals with these folders locations. Anyone remember where that is?

Found it - now to see if it works:
  1. Start regedit.exe.
  2. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders.
  3. Double-click Personal (for My Documents) and change the value.
  4. Double-click My Pictures and change the value.
  5. Close regedit.
  6. Log off and restart the machine for the change to take effect.

Thanks for that, @LordX . I'll try it next time I mess up relocating the Quick access folders to another drive but forget to create the new folders to receive them beforehand. I had to create a new profile to recreate the default locations, since restore default locations didn't work. After creating the new profile with it's defaults, I had to create the recipient folders on the second drive , move the data from the second drive root into the appropriate folder, then change the default locations (pointing to the recipient folders this time). Major pain in the ... neck.
