Really love the new Windows 9 start screen/menu

About time. Actually looks pretty nice.

On a separate, but related issue, I had a couple of VM installs yesterday. W 8.1 on Parallels. They have an option to make the install look like W8, tiles, or W7 Start button. They utilize Start8 and ModernMix from Stardock.

What? You mean when you release a developer preview (W8) for feedback and get that feedback, you should listen? What a novel idea.

I agree with everyone else. Looks good and should have been there like that from the get-go.

LOL!!! When I worked in the oil business we, on the receiving end, used to call that "throw it over the wall engineering". R&D develops something, pretending to listen to others. Once released by them, they just toss if over the wall and continue on their way while leaving operations people standing around scratching our heads trying to figure things out.

Looks alright - I think I'd prefer it if they just merged Programs and Apps. The end-user doesn't know the difference.

This is my favourite part:

A good bit of my problem with the "Metro" interface is that it's just plain FUGLY. This isn't much better in terms of looks, and is marginally better in terms of usability. It just reminds me too much of the ugly, squared off, bright color, plainness of like a windows 95 theme.

Just give the windows 9 OS a windows 7 skin and call it a day.
