Having trouble connecting from two W7 Ultimate machines to another W7 Ultimate machine via RDP.

Other systems in the same network (and from other locations) can connect to the target W7 Ultimate machine without issue (including my iPhone). The target machine is set for normal RDP 3389 w/ Less Secure authentication (although this was originally set to Network Level Authentication, and it had the same behavior).

The connection is made, credentials are passed, the screen appears to log in, but instantly disconnects.

NO entries are made in eventvwr.

Graphics drivers have been updated all across the board.

The latest RDP client + Remote Desktop Manager (latest) have been tried without success.

All Windows updates (on both ends) have been installed.

All systems are Mac Minis running W7 in Boot Camp.... but I have tested with 3 of our test mac minis from my office (W7 Pro) and they connect first try, no issues.

Sort of scratching my head here.

Any suggestions? All are appreciated.

Thank you for the input.

Authentication: we have the correct credentials... are you referring to something else?

Software Licensing: this is a single workstation with a single RDP connection. No licensing should be in effect beyond the norm... unless I am misunderstanding.

If you launch a console session using the credentials already in use by an active RDP session that RDP session will immediately disconnect without warning. Your symptom sounds similar. I've also seen screwy RDP things happen when multiple workstations have been incorrectly imaged with the same GUID. (Although that could have been weirdness at the NetBIOS level...). I'm mostly thinking out loud here because your symptom seems to manifest as a Windows problem and not a networking problem.

I have tried with /admin and /console... no difference.

It seems isolated to these two workstations (of course, they were the ONLY two that were required/desired by the client), argh!

I almost updated their NIC drivers but stopped myself... if I do it remotely tonight, I won't be able to support them tomorrow if something goes wrong.

The systems were individually installed with W7U, so there isn't a conflict with GUID (although, if these were copied Parallels installs, yes, that could be a problem).

I might try with something like remotix or 2X rdp clients... funny, I only need the CLIENT rdp, not a whole setup.... but it might be worth the hassle.

Sounds like an issue on the client side of the RDP connection (rather than the target machine), but I can't think of anything right now that would cause that ... 'cept maybe some 3rd party firewall/AV and/or an RDP certificate trust issue.

You could try Donkz's Remote Desktop Plus, just to further diagnose the problem, in case it's a certificate/trust issue. RDPP is just a shell for RPD, but it automatically 'trusts' all local connections. I actually use RDPP instead of RDP a lot; the CL control allows for much greater customisation and automation.

I have tried with A/V and F/W off, no change, and their firewall doesn't block connections of this type (outbound).

Donkz's RDP looks like a nice utility program, but it exhibited the same behavior (from those two systems).

Thank you for response....

I might have to, *gulp*, add them as sub-users on my LMI account.

One other thought ...

Are you forwarding any local resources ... printers, ports, drives, etc? ... perhaps try without any of them.

I'd also try manually configuring things like Connection Speed and Display Resolution/Size.

good ideas - I've tried stripping it right down to brass tacks... no resources, low resolution, 800x600 etc.... no change.

I have not tuned connection speed, will try that after they leave for the night.

Thank you!

Oh, and failing that, have you tried an msconfig 'clean boot'? .... Could be some other process interfering with RDP, although you'd expect something in the logs. Still, probably worth a try ...
