So, two weeks ago I had a call from Nige at Cadishead Computers as he wanted a quote on 3 Dell business PC's, as we occasionally work together. He passed the details over to me, and I contacted the 'Dell Guy' at IngramMicro. "No worries" I'm told. "We'll get the quote to you just as soon as we can." This was on Monday 27th April.
The week closes out and nothing from the 'Dell Guy.' So I call him up on Tuesday 5th May (Monday was a public holiday), and naturally ask "What's going on?' He advises "Oh, I haven't done anything with it. I forgot. I'll get right on it.' So Wednesday comes and goes - nothing. Thursday comes, and I chase him yet again. Still fobbed off with the "I'll chase them and let them know it's urgent." Thursday closes out - still nothing from him. Friday arrives, and so do Nige's customers.
By this time, both Nige and myself are feeling extremely embarrassed, and a bit stupid (at least I am). So I turn to Nige, and say "Why don't we get a HP quote instead, to which he agrees. I call up my 'HP Guy' and tell him what's going on. He asks me to forward the specs, which I do. 47 minutes later - a quote! It's taken Dell 2 weeks to produce nothing, and HP 47 minutes to get a quote to myself and Nige.

Even more, we then change the specs on the desktops - can we get 2 with RAID 1, and 1 TB drives, and can we get the RAM upgraded to 8GB?

HP surprises us both with their honesty. "You'd be better of getting some third party 1TB drives and RAIDing it yourselves. The 8GB upgrade can be done by your distributor (Ingram Micro of all places - lol).

So....

After TWO weeks of waiting for a Dell quote - still nothing!
After 47 minutes waiting for a HP quote, we have one, and HP has won!

Kudos to HP!

One reason I don't go direct.
If I wanted Dell it would be via Exertis and not Dell direct.
My HP tends to be C2000/TechData
Fujitsu tends to be Enta

The Dell quote was being tendered through Ingram. Don't deal directly with Dell
The HP quote was direct with my HP account manager (I'm a HP One Partner), who then told Ingram what to charge :)

I am considering becoming a Fujitsu Partner :)

It's amazing in this day and age how hard it can be to get someone to respond if you want to buy something. You'd think the request would go into some database with watchdog timers and managers getting their panties in a wad if there was no timely response.

A couple of years ago I was looking at various MDM services for iDevices. Even after 3 phones calls I never heard back from Mobileiron.

I wouldn't mind either, but we were't asking for the world.

Just 2 x workstations same spec, and 1 workstation (which my clients class as a server), with 3 separate hard drives. 1 for the OS and Progs, and the other 2 raided.

I was informed by Dell, when I initially spoke to them, that the 3rd machine, would be better having 1 drive, and then partition that, and use it as a raided drive.

My clients initially spoke to Dell, and got an initial quote, then passed the quote over to me. That's when I got involved with Dell, and spoke to Andy about it.

PS, thanks for the assistance Andy. Great help mate :)

makes it worse IMHO. Ingram should be on the ball for sure on this

Get a hold of your primary Ingram rep and raise hell and have him switch to another Dell rep.
We've occasionally had a slacker rep for some brand or another...if there's a lack of response, start screaming to your main account rep. It's his/her job to proxy those sales, their paycheck is based on it (commission).
