I don't think there is a lot you can do to totally mitigate this. Usually, these are just bots which are war-dialing (calling every number in order) to confirm working numbers, fax lines to spam, etc. Most often they are using some VOIP service and spoofing their caller ID as well to appear local to you.

I get a call on the business line every single day (usually around 5:30-6PM) with a recording saying that "our records indicate that you have not updated your Google listing". Drives me freaking crazy!!!

We used to get these all the time, but we have a greeting/auto-attendant now. The call hangs up before the greeting finishes and luckily our phones dont start ringing until the greeting is done. We still get the telemarketers that they sell to, but we dont get those stupid beeps anymore.

I get these from the US every day. random states with random numbers. Not much you can do about it since they are bot calls.

Actually the "update your Google listing' calls all came from Texas. Since I use Google voice I spent some time blocking and almost no longer get those calls - thank goodness.....

Some of the misc. calls with beeps can be industrial or other machines trying to call home. Something went wrong and someone never setup the notifications correctly in the machine. Some of ours used to do it (in my manufacturing days) and we'd eventually get calls about it from what ever random number kept getting called.

If using a smart phone, I find that I like the app called Mr Number. You can use it to block calls, it also picks up sometimes if it thinks calls are nefarious and will block them automatically. It also incorporates a social media twist. It has a spot where people give feedback about numbers so if people have given feedback on a number then you can have an idea who the number is etc.

The one for the cat is great.
Judging from the pic, the cat would disagree.

At my parent's house their landline gets a call between 6:30 and 7PM every single day that just goes to the answering machine and hangs up. Best they can do is just try to ignore it.

We get multiple calls a day from these jerks and other telemarketers/spammers/google listings/etc. I ignore most of them based on their number/caller ID. Sometimes I can google them really quick to be real sure. Otherwise if it's a somewhat local looking number I'll brave it and answer it. I have over 468 phone numbers blocked in our phone system. A few are entire exchanges. I only wish I could block them on my cell phone by the exchange. Keep getting calls from a 405-500-XXXX. Always a different number.

I dont know! :) I can tell you what I realized. I put all the strange numbers I get into maltego. Over time maltego built up a diagram. Apparently - many of the weird random calls were from phone number sites, like where you look up someone's phone number, and there were so many connected.
It looked like example server 'n' had 5 numbers calling me from it. Server 'p' had 8 numbers calling me. Server 'm' had 3 numbers calling me. They were all from different websites on the net related to finding out who owns a phone number. Oddly there was about 10 different websites all sharing information and with different callers calling me. o.0
LoL, yes I know how it sounds, but that is what Maltego graphed.
