I just got the greenlight to double the RAM (from 64 to 128GB) on my client's ESXi host (A Dell R720). That will provide some much-needed breathing room. $900 (plus my completely reasonable markup, of course) well-spent.
This is the same machine I mentioned in the ESXi upgrade thread. We've got a DC, an App/SQL server, a linux VM for the powerchute monitoring, and about 5 workstation VMs. One has the Ubiquiti console and a management console for the copiers on it, and the others are for remote workers. It clearly should have had more RAM from the start, but I guess it was not in the budget back at the beginning of 2015 when it was purchased. They only had a single remote worker for years, but last year added 3 more and it has really tanked the performance - so much so that we put those 3 workers on physical machines.
Should be a fun weekend once I get the downtime scheduled!
