Question about DNS

I'm somewhat new to servers, I have a client site with 8 workstations and a server running 2011 small business essentials and active directory.

server ip : 192.168.5.165

i know the client workstations need to have the server ip as their default dns server but doing so prevents users from being able to access certain websites like yahoo or quickbooks online or other random websites.

Modifying the tcp/ip properties to make google dns the primary dns server obviously messes up the active directory connection but allows for yahoo and other websites to load almost immediately.

Can anyone provide an explanation as to why this may be?

Thanks

There is a problem with the servers DNS.
If that server was setup properly...all users should be able to go to yahoo and quickbooks online and whatever.

My guess is that the DNS forwarders are not setup correctly on the servers DNS management console.

And perhaps the server is not looking at itself for DNS.

server is definitely looking at itself for DNS, i did not manually set any dns fowarding but thats probably the best place to start eh
