PSU power cable adaptor

Hi all,

I have an ancient Optiplex 755 (SFF version) here which I need to get back on its feet. The PSU is faulty, but it's a small, oddball shape. So I got a replacement that fits perfectly, but the 24-pin power connector for the motherboard is the "mini" type, whereas the motherboard's 24-pin female port, is standard size. No problem, I thought, I'm sure I can find an adaptor. Adaptors to connect a regular PSU to a motherboard with the mini 24-pin socket, are easily found (I have one). But I cannot, for the life of me, find one that works the other way round. Perhaps there's a good reason for this - can anyone shed any light on this or suggest anything?
 
Isn't Optiplex a Dell SKU?

I recall there were early Dell PSU that had ATX Connector but had non standard wiring.

It might be cheaper/easier just to buy a whole machine from eBay and take the power supply out?

I can get one from China, but they're estimating 6 weeks for delivery...

Yes, but I saw some variance online as to what constitutes male or female in terms of ATX power connectors. The motherboard's socket is standard ATX 24 pin. You're plugging something into it, so it seems female. But if you look into the socket, there are pins sticking up and some people interpret that as meaning that it's male!

The NEW power supply part number. I can remember getting small form factor PSU for Radiant POS. While they look the same they actually have several differences. Another thing to note. Many times major OEM's will have different part numbers for machines sold in different countries. Used to see that all the time when I was at CompUSA. Especially with laptops.

In the future, it might make more sense to clone the drive or even physically migrate it to a new computer instead of futzing around with a PSU that's irregular and hard to find. Just a thought. Can sell to the client as in need of upgrade anyway for his replacement.
