Hi, I set up a new win 8 pc for a customer, the old pc is dead but I managed to recover his pst file. What are the options here to get his contacts back? From what I've googled so far there is no way to import into outlook.com without him installing the desktop outlook. Is there another app or program that will import the pst or at least convert it to import into a client??

Install the Outlook 2013 trial onto a PC (yours or his), open PST file, export contacts as CSV, import CSV into Outlook.com contacts, done.

If you want to transfer mail too, load the PST into Outlook 2013 as described above, add his Outlook.com IMAP account into Outlook 2013, and drag/drop emails from your PST to the IMAP folders.

Note: When you 'Open' the PST (not import it) into Outlook 2013/etc. you're not actually transferring the data from the PST into your own PST file, etc., if that's what you're worried about. You can just 'open' the PST, get the info you need, and then 'close' it (right click on the PST file name in the left hand pane), and that's it.
