Programs to aid manual removal

Just wondering what applications people are using to manually remove malware from pcs.

Autoruns from www.sysinternals.com to find unfamiliar processes and those without company names.

One tool that is overlooked is the Advanced Mode in Spybot Search & Destroy from www.safer-networking.org. I have run into many people who do not know about all the great tools that are available only if you change the Mode to Advanced.

1. Winsock LSP - Instantly shows bad or suspicious LSP's
2. System Startup - Instantly shows bad or suspicious startup items
3. Hosts File - shows the contents of the hosts file
4. Browser Pages - displays the dozen or so default browser pages. Allows you to change any of them to the default of your choice
5. BHO's - Instantly shows bad or suspicious Browser Helper Objects and allows you to delete them
6. ActiveX - Instantly shows bad or suspicous ActiveX components and allows you to delete them.

Autorums and Process Explorer have to be two of my favs that aren't typical as one might see, Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, etc.

Spybot definitely is a great tool in either mode (although Advanced def improves its usefelness!

Agreed, HiJackThis is and has been for a long time now very valuable, Google as a resource is great, pull the collection of such a large mass of information...hard to beat that.
