Print job repeatedly stuck in print queue

I have a client who calls me about once a month with a pdf stuck in his print queue. I run stalled printer repair and it's fixed quickly, but I'd like to find a way to make it not happen in the first place.
I put a link to the program but he refuses to use it himself, he just wants it to work right, and I can't say I blame him.
The printer is an HP Officejet 8600 pro, connected VIA USB to a Toshiba Vista notebook.

Anything notable or unique about the PDF ? Size, format, color usage, etc ?
The fact its not just any file, but a PDF, might give you a clue to what to look for. Its possible whatever is printing the PDF is screwing up OR the driver for the printer might not be able to handle something about certain PDFs.

Just tossing some ideas out there .....

Other than clear the print queue, what else did you do?

I have removed the printer, changed it from network to USB, updated the drivers, reinstalled the drivers, reinstalled the OS (for something else but the problem remained).

The only constant in the PDF this is that they are usually over a couple megabytes, this last one was 12 megabytes.

Go with Marks idea, not all clients adhere to the adobe standards. There is enough hard disk space to spool?

Edit

Just seen you have reloaded. Is it just PDFs, all other file formats are ok? If that is the case definitely Marks idea.

There's enough drive space, the pdf client he's using is adobe reader.

Is it only PDF's that are having the issue when trying to print?

Have you checked the print spooler? We've had issues where the Print Spooler service just stops before the printer can print, and we would get what you are getting. Sometimes it was just one application, sometimes it didn't matter what the application was. With the specific application issues, uninstalling and then installing the latest release has fixed this issue. With Non-specific applications, we'd have to uninstall all the printers, repair the Print Spooler service, and then reinstall the printer.

I found this a while ago with a client, was using Adobe Reader. Rather than frig around with Adobe archaic settings [I tried them all] I installed another free variant like FoxitPDF or Nitro, no more spool errors.
