Prayers for Las Vegas

This coward knew most of these people were not from Vegas, this was an attack on the entire US. Last night I was up when it happened, saw it on the new, watched the interviews with people coming out of the arena. Almost every person was very aloof about it, none were crying. At that point, no one was dead and they had no idea of how many were injured. I can see Mandalay Bay from my apt and saw the helicopters, it was an eerie feeling.

I went to bed and 2 people were dead. This am I woke up at 4:00 am to find out 50+ were dead and 200 injured. I thought of those folks last night saw for the first time in my life how "shock" can really effect people. None of them seemed they just lived through this horrifying experience.

i went back to bed and woke up now to 400 injured :(

I read from articles that people thought it was all just a fireworks show until blood splattered on them and they saw people falling down around them. I can't imagine how horrific that must have been.

Sad. Me and my wife got married in Vegas.

Shootings like this happen all the time however at rap concerts/venues (though not this massive) and you never really hear much about it. I wonder why that is? I can venture to guess, but rather leave politics out the thread.

I cancelled all my appointments today, I just can't focus. And I want to get out and donate blood, but the lines are very long and I can't stand for that long due to my leg injury, but I will try later on.

Not sure what you're trying to say, since this was a Country music concert. But the obvious answer to "why" it happens at concerts/venues is because there's a lot of people there.

This is awful. I heard some of the first reports on it before going to work and didn't know anything real until I got home. The videos of it are unreal, I'm practically in tears seeing it all. He had 18 guns including full auto weapons, thousands of rounds of ammunition as well as explosives. Its mind boggling someone could get all that.

It's not fashionable to talk about the mentally ill. So collectively we'll try to demonize and rationalize this. Deep down we don't want to face the reality that there are dangerous people who need to be locked up for their own safety and those of others.

In the early part of the 20th century this was a standard procedure. Ever watch the movie "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest"?

Me too...

Total bullsh-t. It is a reflection. I know the exact area of the building the first clip is looking at. The driver is coming out of the upper-level valet parking. The fourth floor is too low to see the concert venue which is across the road nearly 1500 ft away. You can also see the "gunfire" flashing and yet not hear bullets. It is a flashing light, probably a slot machine or some other blinking thing that casinos are filled with. And she is so close to the building that she can't look up and see the snipper's window without getting out of her car. It is a bunch of conspiratorial Alex nutjob Jones nonsense.

My heart aches for those directly impacted by this tragedy: those who lost their life and their family and friends, plus all the injured and other survivors. Don't forget about those who heroically rendered aid: the concert goers, the first responders, the medical staffs at the hospitals, etc. etc. Such a horrific tragedy to experience firsthand I can only imagine.

My heart also aches for the rest of the United States and the world. I have the same feeling watching the video clips of this event that I got when watching the events of September 11, 2001. Our nation (and likely the rest of the world) will be forever scarred by this horrific event.

Praying for peace.

So, just to clarify...are you guys saying that only "mentally ill people" are responsible for gun deaths?

Nope. But when you hear our Republican politicians offering "thoughts and prayers" after this latest massacre, I think people ought to remember that these are the same guys that voted to sell guns to the mentally ill this year.

Our nation (and likely the rest of the world) will be forever scarred by this horrific event.

Sadly, they will not--at all. If dozens of little schoolchildren getting blown away by an AR-15 doesn't motivate anyone in this country to make changes, I don't know what will. We've had 1,500 mass shootings since Sandy Hook and literally NOTHING has changed. And the rest of the world isn't "scarred" by our insane massacre frequency, they're genuinely bewildered by it. They don't understand why any sane society would put up with this.

The country singer that was singing at the time of this latest senseless violence has changed his mind on gun control completely. Sadly the lightbulb just never seems to come on for certain people until it happens to them personally.

"Thoughts and prayers" are useless platitudes that don't change a damn thing. We need action.
