Power Supplie Brands

Antec is probably the most common PSU on the market. That helps explain why they have more failures. When I say Antec, I do not buy the cheapest versions.

Did you get Antec to replace your PSU? It was still under warranty. I have never had any problem getting them to honor their warranties.

I have had many Antec PSU's replaced under warranty and had those replacements fail also. That is the reason I will never use their PSU's again.

They all failed due to leaky, bulging caps, including the replacements.

The lesser known brand, Ikonik, has quality PSUs and some very good prices. I have a 500w model (80+) from them in my personal system and it has performed without a hitch for a couple of years now. Would recommend them in a heartbeat.

Am shocked to hear about Antec. I chose this brand because I can get them at good prices, but I didn't know they failed often. It's never happened to any of my clients yet.

Just replaced my first Antec of my own. It was 13 years old so I do not consider that a terrible fault.

Most of the PSU's I replace are generic or carry the OEM name on it. Just about all of anything is made in China today. If you have ever worked with them on building anything, then you are aware of the reasons for their "junk" reputation.

13 years ago is well before the time of incorrectly made capacitors.
Many electronics contained these junk capacitors, so Antec could not be faulted for the first failure, but to give me replacements with the same junk capacitors drove me away from their product.

I don't blame you a bit. The story about the bad capacitors is true and it is the fault of the USA government. PCB was banned before a good viable alternative was available. While alternatives are being used now, the engineers are still searching for a good viable alternative that will last as long as PCB. The HVAC repairmen love the new capacitors because their maintenance/repair business really increased then PCB was banned.
