Curious if yall got any great posters/charts of digital comparisons. I had to try my best to explain the difference in a DVD and Bluray quality wise this week.

Often I find myself explaining concepts such as:
  • video quality/resolution/cropping
  • screen DPI/ratio/LCDvsIPS
  • png/jpeg/raw/compressed images/lossless
  • mp3/wav/flac/online raidio audio quality and how bit depth works.
just curious on charts and such to put on the wall for visual aids when explaining "basic" computer knowledge to help customers understand our Greek!

I can help with that: most people can't see the difference or if they can they don't care. It's not worth the extra trouble and expense.

And those who can see a big difference and care about it, well, they'll already know all that stuff because they're really into it already.

To answer your question, I don't know about posters but I frequently go to YouTube and play a video from the slow - mo guys that shows how a hard drive works. They're even waterproof!

The one I find persists despite best efforts is the inclination of all clients to call HD space 'memory'. This can lead to some interesting miss-understandings!

I carry a 2.5" laptop drive with a loose top with me on all house calls. Helps explain hard drive damage (quit slamming the laptop top when its running please) and helps me explain the difference of a SSD. Most have no idea what a hard drive looks like and why it get damaged. It's a good teaching moment most appreciate.

Despite what we do, the general public will never know or most times, care, what the specific parts of a computer are called.

Many call the computer (box) the "hard drive" because once again, they don't know or care about the specific parts, etc.

We can attempt to educate our users but it will (most of the time) fall on deaf ears.

Since I am the type of person who takes most things literally I find that dealing with the (generally) ignorant user is at its best, difficult!

Computer parts are for the most part easy for those who service them, Digital video disks and qualitysare not so easy so an info graphic for that topic was wanted. I sure Jakob can explain Hard drives ram etc.
