For that do migration work, what do you do?

Do you use the clients current profile or make a new one?

Do you backup the pst from the pop account before migration?

Do you export out the IMAP to a pst before migration?

If they are on exchange already, do you export out a copy before migration?

Do you use migration wiz tools or do it by hand?

Just curious what others do. I try to use their current profile, I backup PST and expoert imap/exchange. I also export out their calendars and contacts to csv file.

For migration residential grade e-mail to Exchange....I usually just take the PST and shove it up there. If they weren't using Outlook...I'd use Outlook to make a PST and then shove it up there to Exchange. (import to mailbox once account is created and you've tied Outlook to that account.

My colleague actually used MigrationWiz for a one-off migration from yapoop...it was a massive mailbox the end user had, was easier just to pull 'n shove with Migration Wiz rather than pull down and then manually shove up again. But it can't get non-email objects from some mail sources like Yapoop...so you have to go through the mangled export functions that Yapoop has which of course rarely ever imports cleanly into proper mail systems.

LOL!!! Yapoop! New one to me. I'll have to remember that.

I don't bother creating a new profile. I'll just add the new Exchange account to the existing Outlook installation.

As far as using migwiz or manual. Of course I'll always do a backup of an IMAP to a .pst. Beyond that it depends on the situation. If the EU's have all of the credentials needed and the old service cooperates with Exchange I'll use the migwiz. Manual works fine but with the huge stores people have these days there is a lot of babysitting. Also I remember seeing that the migwiz will migrate a .pst as well.

mark and yeolde, would like to have you both on my Office 365 show, I'm sure we can talk for an hour about this crazy stuff!

Interested?

Done dozens without migwhiz and 3 with it. It's amazing. Love it. Love being able to stage ahead of time and make multiple passes. Cuts down on weekend work. Have a proposal out for 60 mailboxes and if I get it, I'm trying their new product deploymentpro.

I tried migrationwiz on my last job but it didn't work. Their tech guys worked with me but eventually we had to admit defeat, overnight only uploaded about 10 emails on about 2 accounts. No problems getting a refund off them though.
