Podnutz

I've always thought that they're not in the tech chat business. They're in the selling videos business. Shut up and buy the videos.

:p:p:p

I don't listen to any of the shows. Doesn't Steve C not even own a shop anymore? Kinda hard to do a tech chat show if you're not even in the business, but then I refer you back to my first sentence.

I bought the vids because bryce gave out a coupon code in his newsletter one week. Watch them once wasn't to impressed.

The only podcast I've caught was when Nick was on. Thought the interviewer was totally unprepared and knew nothing about D7, I felt bad for Nick.

I saw that they have Lisa's latest podcast up, if I'm not to tired after the WhiteSox game, I plan on listening to it.

You blokes have no idea! Podnutz has helped many a tech, especially via the forums. I purchased the laptop vids and Techsite builder and found them invaluable. Steve C deserves all advertising the can get as he puts a lot of his time into putting together the shows like podnutz pro, podnutz daily and linux for the rest of us. The shows are informative and entertaining and cost a lot of time and money to produce, any revenue from advertising is fine by me.

I enjoy Podnutz as well. Starting out, I listened to every, single Podnutz and Podnutz Daily show. There is tons of information there and it's in a medium that I can take in while I'm driving.

As of late, the Podnutz forums have been quite the ghost town and PND has only been coming out every 2-3 weeks it seems. I wish there was more consistency, but Steve C. is only one guy. I know that he has help from others hosting shows and forum moderators, but I think Podnutz would be better served by a more structured oversight.

As for the infomercial aspect goes, I don't mind that at all. I have bought the laptop videos and the tech site builder kit. There is tons of information there that I go back to again and again. I've also purchased Lalo's videos and Dan's book (+docs). I plan to purchase other products from and through them (like Fab's, the TN kit and the new Wisetechnician videos eventually). I'm also hoping they release a TSBK 2.0 with SEO instructions as well. I love learning how to do things for myself and audio/video formats are a great way of doing that for most people.

I actually found PN by reading the TN forums. Based on my early experiences with both, I wish it would have been the other way around. PN is great for people just starting out and learning. TN tends to have more of and advanced (or even elitist) audience with little patience for the new or inexperienced a lot of times.

At any rate, I like Podnutz and hope they continue to develop helpful products for technicians.

edit:
I forgot to mention that Door's "Linux for the rest of us" videos are fantastic as well. I'm not familiar with Linux at all and it is opening the door for me. I try to play around with it when I have time.

I listen to the shows whenever I've got some free time, but I've never purchased any of the products. The product websites remind me too much of those how to get rich quick websites.

It's on my list of podcast downloads but, over the last couple of years, it has definitely changed.

It used to be that they'd have a tech on and I'd get a little something out of every 'cast. Some new tool, a new technique, a new site to check out. Something.
It was the most relevant of all the podcasts I listened to.

Nowadays, it's maybe every 3rd that seems to have something relevant to me... which is surprising now that they've got one for Servers and Linux, etc. You'd think that their main show would become more focused but, somehow, it hasn't. More time spent plugging their own products or someone else's stuff.

I have not listened to all of them, but here are some of my thoughts when I do.

1. From a business perspective, you have to chew the meat and spit out the bones. A lot of these guys give really really really bad advice. Others like Chris Barre on the other hand give you excellent advice.

2. From a technical perspective, same as #1, but not quite as bad.

3. As for videos: I can only comment on the wisetechnician.com videos, but to be fair, here is my honest assessment. A lot of what is said in the videos is also said by Chris Barre on the podcasts, that said, the videos go into more detail. Most of what he says should be common sense, but most techs are not smart businessmen, so common sense is relative. Finally, if you are a new business owner and you have little to no business experience, sense or if you do not know how to sell your services or products, then listen to Chris Barre and get his videos.

I think Matt from the Podnutz Pro podcast gives excellent advice, both business and technical. As for the rest of the Podnutz stuff , it just didnt interest me.

Just a comment

Podnutz is no twit (not that there is anything wrong with them)

But you only hear ads for products relevant to the cast 95+% of the time and unlike virtually every other podcast network nearly anybody (and I mean anybody) can be on a show

So if the shows are not good enough why not volunteer to be on a show and "make it better"

To make a great show every week is unbelievably hard, no I say near impossible

P.s. I will post again in another 3-4 years
