I set up a Ricoh laser printer today and installed it in the correct manor with a known good open port for the printer. When I tried to ping it to see why it was not printing, I input the address xxx.xxx.xxx.020 and that change to xxx.xxx.xxx.016 - not sure why that is happening. Any suggestions?

Justinspired is right, I'd bet .016 is the pc you are pinging from and your OS is Vista or Win 7.

In XP, when a ping failed you'd get a "request timed out" error. On Vista/7 you get a "reply from .016, destination host unreachable."

I'd check the firewall to see if it's blocking the printers IP.

If you are sure that you are setting up a static IP address on the printer correctly then whatever device hands out DHCP addresses is changing it.

Make sure your printers static IP is not in the routers pool of DHCP addresses.
