Phone line testing - UK?

I discovered yesterday that my phone handset is broken, what are you using to test phone line sockets for the quiet test? Do you use the clients phone or do you use your own handset. If you have your own what make do you use?

I normally use my own phone I know works. It's just a basic corded handset. But is great for the job.

I just have a cheap corded binatone handset that used to be in my workshop. I know the handset works fine it has confirmed socket/line faults for me many times.

I see so many customers now that do not have a corded phone in the house and do not realize that they cant make a phone call if they have a power failure which in the rural area I am based in is quite common.

Yeah this is the problem, everyone has a cordless phone. I ordered a basic one from Amazon which is coming today. I just wondered if someone had a special one/gadget
