PC to Mac data transfer application

Hi, I just got my first call from a customer wanting to transfer her dead windows 7 data to a brand new gifted macbook. I have little mac experience and was wondering if theres a datagrab or fab's type application that does this??

If the PC is operational in any way, you can use Migration Assistant.

If not, just connect the drive with USB and copy the user folders....it's pretty painless.

no, its toast, but the hd is fine. So if I just copy her whole user account over into the mac user acct I'm good? seems too easy. Also she has quickbooks, think her data file would have to be converted in some way?

Yeah, just copy data to the appropriate folders. May want to do imports with iphoto and itunes to gather up all of the pictures and music after you copy the raw data over. Quickbooks should have a walk through for importing the data file. If I had the machines in front of me I could figure it out, but otherwise let google guide you. Email can be tricky depending on what they are using as a client and what they want to use on the Mac side.

It is pretty easy as mentioned above, however you may want to consider something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Mac-Transfer-Kit-White/dp/B001GTM4HQ. Not sure how well these things work, I know I used to have one I bought on a whim, I think I used it once and it worked ok.

Looks like it's currently out of stock. But why not just pull the drive and slave it via usb dock? That's what we do currently even with a working machine to make it faster (as opposed to using Ethernet like Win to Mac migration uses).

the hardware end isn't the prob, I have several usb adapters, done transfers many times with windows pc's. I just don't know where/how to dump the data in the right places in a mac.

Understood. My question was to 300DDR as in what was the point of the PC to Mac usb thing since you already acknowledged the machine isn't operational and you just weren't sure about copying over data.

The folders are almost identical from a Vista/7 PC to Mac...Music goes to Music, Documents to Documents...and so on. There really is nothing to it, as far as files themselves. As mentioned, e-mail might give a little trouble...but google it and you'll be fine.
