Partnership

Hello readers,

As a Web developer, I signed a partnership agreement with 2 ladies that did the sales and research. After a year, we have decided to dissolve the partnership due to poor sales. However, 1 lady wants to be sole proprietor and keep the business going and wants to know if I want to be a consultant for Web development.

Question to readers: In your experience with partnerships, if it dissolves, would you want to be a contractor? How would you charge for your services: hourly, monthly, quarterly,...etc.?

Thanks,
Manny

Have you considered keeping the partnership with just the two of you since I am assuming the 2nd lady is done with the agreement?

Do you have monthly customers that pay you for site maintenance, updates, seo etc...?

If so I would want to keep the business or at least get paid monthly for the continuing monthly contracts and then per project for new design/dev projects.

Also if you work from home and file a tax return there are some good savings you can deduct versus if you actually worked in an on-site office setting.

I definitely wouldn't charge quarterly. Due to lack of funds from the employer or if she had financial problems. Monthly is long enough to wait for funds for completed projects.

I would get initial up-front cost or a Retainer Fee to start the projects and then milestone payments along the way.

Thanks,

Craig

Hourly. And don't take another partner in your other ventures either.
