Hi all,

Since my client refuses to give up his beloved OE until you pry his cold dead hands off of it, I am dealing with this issue. Do you think I need to create a new account or is there something I'm missing after checking "remember this password."

Is the outbound authentication typed in manually...and that needs to be changed also (instead of the option to use the same credentials as incoming mail server).

Correct ports?

I've typed and retyped in the authentication manually several times to make sure I got it right. Tried POP and IMAP settings and ports. Same 800CCCE error. Cannot connect to server. ISP: Charter.net and no need for secure server authentication.

Looking more and more like I need to delete then recreate a new account. He just wants to change his password.

Back in the days when I did Tech Support for Comcast, we would delete and create a new account. We would do this over the over the phone with our clients.

First: Did he change his password with Charter yet?

Second: A VERY quick Google (didn't even have to finish typing the query) found this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290684

Used to be a very common problem, and this usually takes care of it. Google is your friend.

To modify credential manager:

Start > Run and type "control keymgr.dll" and hit enter
Alternatively navigate to Start > Control Panel > Credential Manager

If there already are entries, you can edit it. or you can add entires also.

Hope this helps.

Thanks kru89. That did the trick! I appreciate it.

I remember running into this problem all the time. I used to delete a registry key & let Windows recreate it with the correct info, but I like your method better. Good tip.
