outlook express "to free up space can compact messages"

I have a client that has this come up on a few different computers.

On one of them, I edited the registry and changed a value to 0. Off the top of my head, I don't have the site where I got that info from. If it is important, I can probably find it.

Anyways, after doing this this message went away for about 2 weeks. It is now coming back again. We have tried different things and haven't been able to resolve this. After googling and finding different answers, nothing seems to work so far. I was wondering if anyone else has ran across this before and what they did to resolve it.

There is also another computer that is not even connected to the internet and does not use outlook. This computer supposedly has the same message pop up every now and then at random times.

And you've checked the thing for viruses? Any e-mail client popping up randomly sort of screams e-mail worm to me. (connected to the net or not, btw)

If nothing else, just uninstall OE.

The one NOT connected to the internet has not been checked for viruses.

I think I will just uninstall OE on that one.

The one that is using OE is more important. He also lost some emails as well on that machine. That one has been scanned with MSE, malwarebytes, and SAS as well. No major viruses that I could tell with that one.

OE is set to automatically prompt the user to compact the messages after opening and closing OE 100 times.

Personally I move people away from OE to Windows Live Mail.

Ok I will take a look.

Yeah, I have also considered trying to switch them over to Live Mail. I like that program a lot better too.

I will update on the situation.

I seen a vista machien with this error message this last week. No OE on vista, its was a virus
