I have a client that migrated from apptix to godaddy. He primarily uses Mac Mail on 3 computers, iPhone, iPad, and 1 PC

The exchange account is about 100,000 emails. It was a disaster getting the Mac's in sync but eventually after 2-3 tries they seemed to have all the data. (Outlook on the PC had zero problems)

Anyways somehow all the unread mail became read and then synced across all devices as read. This is kinda a big deal for this guy.

I have access to his old apptix account that has the emails in their proper unread form.

My thought is to hook the old account up to a separate PC and have outlook download it. Then back it up.

Then export the unread emails (about 700) into a pst.

My question is how can I import that into the new exchange system on godaddy, in a way that it will be distinguishable as being unread.

Is that the best idea to try and recover the unread state of the emails?

Thanks.

100k emails and only 700 are read? I know I've been up all night but that sounds rather odd. Was this exchange to exchange? Did you use one of the popular tools like MigrationWiz by BitTitan? But I will say they are better off not using Apple Mail with Exchange. Apple Mail is an excellent client for POP and IMAP. But M$ is a real pain when it comes to compatibility and mail clients. And how big is the store?

I echo what MarkV said.
Migration to the new mail host is already done...so going back to do this over probably won't happen. Although it "could" be done over if push came to shove.
You really want to stick with Outlook clients to Exchange servers. Outlook and Exchange are designed from the ground up to work together, optimally. Outlook works best with Exchange...connecting to other types of mail servers are afterthoughts..and not ideal. Exchange works best with Outlook clients. Toss other mail clients onto it and you have those glitches that can consume massive amounts of time trying to figure out.

Exporting all to a PST...and then with a fresh Outlook client connected to that mailbox...import...from PST...would work. But then if another e-mail client like the Apple mail client connects to that mailbox...dunno if it would glitch things up and start the problem all over again.

My first thought reading this was: "He migrated 100K emails from one vendor to another and the only problem he had was that 700 emails went from unread status to read status? Touchdown!!"

If you have any way to determine which emails these were, I'd say take that list and manually change them one at a time - it's only 700. Probably take you a couple of hours - what other solution would take less time?

I was thinking much the same thing. It's a PITA, no doubt about it. But it's likely to be the fastest solution, and you know for sure it's going to work.
