outlook 2013 imap mail only updates after changing folder

I have a client running outlook 2013 using imap. To get new mail they have to switch folders, for example, click on sent, then click on the inbox for it to appear. I did create a new profile and it is doing the same thing. Any thoughts?

Interesting. I have a client on a cheap web host doing the same thing, but it wasn't a big enough issue for them to have me look into it.

This has been a problem with Outlook at least dating back to Outlook 2003. I wish I could offer some advice but this is a problem by design I believe. This is the sole reason I personally stopped using Outlook 15 years ago. It is such a PITA.

Where is the mail hosted? I believe my client with the issue is on Bluehost.
