Opinions On AV Software Running On Servers

Hi all, so I signed up a new dentist client with 2 servers at two locations. Each is running their LOB software - xray software, dental software and of course a file server.

There is currently no AV software running at all on either one. I want to load BitDefender and run a full scan but I'm also weary of it nuking something with the software they are running.

Any thoughts or opinions?

I always put it on the servers.
Servers (if you want to do it correctly) require some rather "tweaked" settings for antivirus.
For DCs and Exchange servers and other database servers...there are tons of exclusions you should do...never just a "default install". Not only exclusions, but tell the AV software to ignore certain file type extensions.

Some LOB apps don't like AV software sticking its nose in there...so I exclude those directories also from real time file protection.

Schedule "after hours" scans.

If you are worried you could always install the AV but turn off Real Time Scanning and do regular Scheduled Scans instead.
