Hey all!! It's been a while.
So I have an odd issue here with this laptop. The laptop is in fine running shape, except for when you try to insert an SD card into the card reader. When that is done, the laptop instantly blue screens. Any ideas for me here? Thanks!

Tried a different card? Do you have a bad slot? Might consider just asking them a usb card reader, can usually pick them up for about 5 dollars here.

What's the BSOD stop code?

It may be a driver issue.

Has Windows been re-installed on the laptop recently? A lot of the built-in SD card readers in laptops won't work correctly without the manufacturer-specific drivers. Sometimes, I find, Device Manager indicates the drivers are installed and working when in fact they're not. Windows seems to misidentify SD card reader hardware occasionally it would seem.

I would first install the latest chipset drivers for the laptop, then the latest SD card reader drivers.

I vote on driver issue as well. I actually own one of those laptops. FYI, they're also plagued with an over heating issue as well.

Alright thanks, good to know.

Yeah I know, I've done countless motherboard replacements on these things lol. It's to the point where I recommend that the customer buys a new laptop and just have everything transferred over. These HP DV* are truly a pain.

I took mine apart, reapplied heat sink and rebuilt thermal connections, and installed a ssd in the 1st hd bay. Not what I'd recommend for customers though, too labor intensive!
