I have seen some far fetched Craigslist ads in my time, but this one is great. If he is working for $30 flat rate with those certs we are all in trouble. I know most of the time the end customers has no idea what all that means.

I will/can fix ANY PC (not apple) for a $30 dollar flat rate. Will upgrade to Windows 10 for additional $10. You can bring the laptop/PC to me, or I can make house calls for another $5. Preferred contact by phone. (I'll respond quicker that way) When I'm finished it will run like it just came out of the box! I am A+ certified, CCNA certified, & MCSE certified. Specialize in removal of viruses, malware, & ransomware. (That is the malware that looks like Windows crashing and gives a phone number for you to call) DO NOT CALL THAT NUMBER, IT'S A SCAM! Or maybe it's just running very slow. I can fix it! Call me instead! :)

I accept paypal and cash only.

He's a scammer FOR SURE.

I had a local guy who bought a computer from me, he related his experience with one of these types of "techs"; what this *particular* tech did was cheap repairs...... and install spyware, even remote access to webcams if they were present. This "technician" would then use his spyware to know when the computer owner was out of the house. When the computer owner was gone, he'd send compatriots to rob it.

The poor guy was robbed 3 times before he finally caught on to it.

Crooks think of everything!
At a local football game a car was broken into and the GPS and garage door remote were stolen.
The crooks used the "Take Me Home" feature of the GPS to take them to the peoples address.
They opened the Garage door and robbed them blind!
They took their time as well knowing how long the game went for!

When I'm finished it will run like it just came out of the box!

Sounds like he's just going to nuke n' pave every system he gets his hands on for $30 a pop. Not at all surprising. There are hundreds of pizza techs like him in every city. As for the certifications, it sounds like he's just BS'ing because honestly, who's gonna verify it? But it sure makes him sound like he knows what he's doing from a computer illiterate person's perspective.

We had a company here that was supporting businesses mainly. They started advertising to home users that they would repair your computet for $35. They're gone now.

They made up for $35 dollar repairs with ultra high business rates. They charged $345 to run a 30ft cat 5 cable. Wasn't even a hard run. It went up a wall (not in the wall), over two feet and hung down to a receipt printer.

Much like when you bite into a $2 steak.... the end result leaves
you wishing you had paid more money for a better piece of meat.

That's why I don't focus on Residential. It's on a race to the bottom. I know right now it's the cheap people who will use these giys, but I think it's going to get worse as more and more data is stored in the cloud. I know a few home users that keep their data in the OneDrive folder and back that up to an external drive. Even a pizza tech could make them happy if they reinstalled Windows, their printer and Office.

Reading this just takes me back...I never look at CL ads anymore, way beyond that. If you feel you are beyond that, stop looking :) It feels good.

It is sad because these types of offers are popping up everywhere. I run a small brick and mortar shop, and I do residential repairs. My prices are still lower than any big box store and you get great one-on-one service. It is hard to draw in business when someone is at the mall flagging cars with a $29 dollar deal. When customers come in and refer to the flyers, I often just say :you get what you pay for". I started telling people to take my business card, because when this guy gets done with your system, and it needs fixed, bring it to me. Many of these "techs" are fly by night, and are only trying to make a couple bucks, and will be gone again in a few months. Like any industry it's up to me to weather the storm :-)

Give an honest service for an honest price, and stand by your work. I still believe in the "Old School" ways.
