Finally back online after a major BT F@£* up.
No phone line or internet for 4 days!

Trying to run a business from home isn't always easy. Not sure its worth paying the extra to be a BT Business customer though.

Just here with a line of laptops waiting to be cleaned :)

Anyway Hello *wave everyone.. did you even miss me?

:)

I figured you were on vacation licking your wounds after the last beatings you took :D

Welcome back to the grind and get after it.

I feel for you. Is this common for BT? What went wrong?

Yes, I enjoy your posts :)

It would seem that someone at the telephone exchange unplugged us and put us back into the wrong port... the engineer said, someone couldn't count... in the meantime I am counting the cost of missed jobs. This is the second time in maybe 6-7 years that we have had a problem. Can't justify doubling my monthly rental to pay for a business line.

I didn't realise how much I use the net, even everyday... TV show catch up, fb, instagram etc.

I gotta thick skin! ;)

Reminds me of when we had Comcast at the house. Seems the neighbor couldn't keep the bill paid and when they'd send some one out to disconnect her, they'd disconnect me. Of course nobody knew the issue, I'd come home to no Internet and call repair, make an appointment for sometime the next week with a 4 hour window. I work 25 miles from home so it was 50 miles round trip to sit and wait for a tech to show up and fix it.

The first time I excused it. Even the second time a few months later I excused all the hassle. (both times they said they re-tagged the cables to make sure there wasn't another mix-up). The third time about 6 mos later, I just called the disconnection department rather than service department. Comcast could be free and I'd pass.

Thought maybe you had been picked up for going postal on a customer. LOL!!! Just kidding of course.

Yeah, not having internet is killer. My home phone is Vonage, VoIP, which I give out to the various companies, such as the bank, CC's, etc, etc so my cell phones do not get clogged up with useless sales pitches. But loosing cell service is killer as well. Having to go onsite to do work and then having to go outside and wander around to get a signal to talk to someone is really bad.

LOL!!! Charter did that to me once. Got home, no internet, support claimed they could see my modem so it must be a problem with my modem. So I ran over to Worst Choice and picked up a new one. Got home hooked it up and still nothing. Call support and they are lost as usual so I demanded to speak to L2. L2 calls back and he's like - "I can't see your modem" so there has to be a problem at the pole or somewhere else. Turns out someone was working on the pole and left mine disconnected.

I have a separate business phone line At home

This is what you should do Calx. But.... please ensure that the technology on the second line is different. As you have BT, then you would ideally need Virgin Cable in for the second line. Don't get another ADSL line. If ADSL does go down at the local exchange, it goes down for all ADSL providers, not just BT. Diversity is the key to resilience in this case :)

Andy...

PS.... Oh... you were away?????

We did notice!

I get so ****** off at stupid internet companies that I sit and think of things to do to them.

Like ....

Plug their line into my 120v service and see how they like it.

lol

That's what I have with Voipfone. My number trips to my mobile after 2 rings
Any provider you would recommend?

http://www.voipfone.co.uk/ is who I use. Not sure if they are any better or cheaper than other companies. You can have multiple phone numbers that are 'local' to the areas you want to service. I initially had 5 but cut down to 2 covering the areas I wanted to. I transferred over my main business number from BT. I have separate home BT number.
