Hi All

I have a customer who has an Evesham desktop PC that came to me with a BSOD. I fixed the error with no hassles and sent it back to the customer.

He calls me later that day to say that his mouse isn't working, and that none of the spare mouses he has would work either. So I popped round there with my mouse, plugged it in and bingo, it works!

I uninstalled his Logitech desktop, and reinstalled, but still no movement from the mouse (although the mouse buttons work!!!). I plug my old mouse in and again, works perectly!

So the customers goes off and buys a new MS keyboard and mouse combo which works ok to start with, but keeps freezing after an hour or so of use. Batteries have been replaced, and connections checked, but still failing to work consistently.

Any suggestions as to the cause and the cure would be a great help.

Thanks, Pete.

I'm assuming the MS keyboard and mouse are wireless? Does the keyboard stop working as well or is it just the mouse? If it works with a hardwired mouse then there has to be some kind of wireless interference interrupting the signal between the mouse and the wifi adapter. Try moving the wifi adapter to the desktop and see if that makes any difference. Some people leave the adapter underneath on the tower which sometimes causes issues like you're having.

I've tried using just a wired USB keyboard and mouse, and still the same. The mouse is recognised by windows, and the buttons work but no motion.

It's got me really confused!

Very odd. It's one thing for the whole mouse not to work but to just have the buttons work is weird.

Just for the heck of it try booting from a live cd and let us know if the problem is still there.

Problem has now been resolved. The HP printer was causing the problem somehow!!! I removed the printer and the mouse moved. So I uninstalled everything relating to HP, and then reinstalled just the printer and scanner drivers. Everything works fine now.
Must have been one of the HP product updates that messed things up.
Thanks for your help.

This whole scenario was quite odd. Never seen or heard anythin' like it lol

Well done for gettin' it resolved and not resorting to N&P
